Just months after hosting a fundraiser at her own home and helping raise over $200,000 for socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Cynthia Nixon has landed a powerful spot on the Commission on Judicial Nomination. That’s the panel that screens and recommends judges for New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.
This isn’t about qualifications. It’s straight patronage. Nixon delivered the celebrity clout, the endorsement, and the money. In return, her wife Christine Marinoni got a high-paying job at the Department of Education under Mamdani. Now Nixon gets to help choose who wears the robes.
The only thing worse than Cynthia Nixon recommending NY judges would be if the Sex and the City characters came to life and formed the entire screening panel. https://t.co/K1JxeTjSMi

Building an Activist Judge Factory
She used to play the outsider progressive when she ran against Cuomo back in 2018. Now she’s deep inside the machine she once complained about. That’s how it works in New York politics. Rail against the system, help your guy win, then collect the rewards.
Look at her record. She’s been a hardcore left activist for years: pushing aggressive education changes, abortion access, and causes that line up perfectly with the DSA crowd. Putting someone like that on the judicial screening commission is how you build an activist judge factory. The picks from this panel are basically the only ones the Governor can choose from. We’re going to get more rulings that put ideology over law and order.

Clear Pay-to-Play Pattern
The timing tells the whole story. Fundraiser and big money for Mamdani, wife gets the DOE gig, then Nixon gets the commission appointment. Pay to play, celebrity edition. Legal folks are already calling it outrageous. One insider put it bluntly about the actress famous for playing a lawyer on TV now vetting real ones. Republican critics like Sen. Anthony Palumbo and AG candidate Saritha Komatireddy are right to call this out as more proof that the judiciary here has become completely political.
This Is Modern Tammany Hall
This is modern Tammany Hall with better Instagram filters. Ordinary New Yorkers follow the rules and struggle with crime and failing institutions while connected celebs and activists trade favors and stack the courts.
We’ve seen enough of this. The judiciary should be about applying the law fairly, not rewarding political donors and Hollywood endorsers. New Yorkers deserve judges who care about public safety and common sense, not the latest progressive wishlist.
What do you think? Is this the new normal under one-party rule, or are we finally going to demand better?
